China’s Hebei province’s government has decided to shut down 12 blast furnaces (BFs), eight converters, and 29 sintering machines in the industrial region of Tangshan before autumn and winter to reduce air pollution.
Authorities have emphasized on flue gas treatment, blast furnace gas treatment and online monitoring facilities for blast furnaces and steel rolling heating furnace, along with complete replacement of the sintering machine oxidation denitrification process.
Among capacity replacement projects, before autumn and winter, Tangshan will shut down three 480m3, three 580m3, one 600m3, one 630m3, two 650m3, one 680m3, and one 800m3 blast furnace. Six 50mt, one 75mt, one 80mt converter will also be shut.
Besides, 22 steelmakers will implement a monthly total carbon emission reduction of more than 30pc.
Three steel mills — Jinma Iron and Steel, Huaxi Iron and Steel and Tangshan Stainless Steel — will be relocated to a demo iron and steel industry base. Authorities will speed up the opening and operation of Songting, Ganglu, Donghai, Xinda (Rongxin), Jinxi and other special steel lines, and complete the special steel lines for Donghai Special Steel and Xiaoji.
