US Stainless steel imports and exports declined in 2019, according to US Census Bureau. 

 

US stainless steel exports around the world decreased by 49pc to 308,583mt, while US stainless steel imports dropped by almost 55pc to 136,132mt in 2019.

 

In December 2019, the US exported more stainless steel to Canada than any other country at 38,717mt, while Brazil received the fewest US exports at 906mt. US exports to China in December totaled 7525mt, followed by Taiwan and India at 7422mt and 1070mt, respectively. 

 

In December 2019, the US imported the most stainless steel from Canada at 9879mt, followed by Mexico at 4487mt. US imports from the Dominican Republic and Columbia totaled 253mt and 161mt, respectively. 

 

In calendar 2019, the US exported the most stainless steel to Canada at 678,674mt, up by 12pc over 2018. Exports to India followed at 125,551mt, an annual increase of 19pc. US stainless steel exports to China declined significantly, decreasing by almost 99pc to 4915mt because of tariffs and the overarching trade wars between the two nations.
