Florida-based aluminum distributor AA Metals plans to restart the Williamsport rolling mill which it recently bought over from JW Aluminum.

According to a release by the company, it will operate the plant under the name Chance Aluminum Corp and will become AA Metal’s first production facility in the US. The facility can cold-roll about 9,080mt (20mn lbs) of aluminum yearly. Chance plans to hire 100 new employees for the site and make $100mn in revenue in the first year. It aims to re-commission the mill by Q4 2021.

While touring the factory with the media, Ying Jiang Cheng, corporate secretary for Chance Aluminum, said that the company is considering a greenfield smelting operation on the available land in the plant’s allotted area.

The Williamsport plant was previously owned by JW Aluminum, who chose to shut down the unit in January this year, citing negated demand from the aerospace sector, which accounted for more than half the product mix at the time.
