Ahmsa expects the Mexican government to approve its partnership with Alianza Minerometalúrgica Internacional (AMI) in H1 2021, which will help in the recovery of its operational flows and production levels.


The Mexican steelmaker, in its bid to recapitalize its finance, sold 55pc of its stake in Grupo Acerero del Norte to AMI, in December 2020 to long steelmaker Grupo Villacero.


In 2020, Ahmsa’s sales fell by 50pc to MXN5.1bn ($246.8mn), from MXN10.2bn in 2019, the company noted in its 2020 earnings report by Mexico’s stock exchange (BMV) without disclosing its crude steel production volume or sales volume.


Ahmsa’s net loss in 2020 increased to MXN2.18bn from MXN2.15bn in 2019. The company posted an EBITDA loss of $41bn compared to an EBITDA loss of $57bn during the same period. 


Mexican crude steel production decreased by 8.3pc to 16.8mn mt in 2020, from 18.3mn mt produced in 2019, according to the latest figures released by the World Steel Association.
