Italian steelmaker Alfa Acciai has signed a contract with Danieli, to expand the spooled bar and coil production at its Brescia plant’s rolling mill No.2.
The mill currently produces 300,000mt of steel bars and coils. The plant feeds 130mm billet into two rolling lines, using a Danieli K-weld machine. The lines produce 5.5-16mm bars and 6-16mm coils separately. Under the new layout designed by Danieli, both the lines will be fed simultaneously, increasing both speed and efficiency, and in turn, the mill’s annual output. However, the projected increase in production volumes was not disclosed.
The new design will also incorporate automation into the process. The project will be undertaken in cooperation with both the firms’ technical departments.
According to media reports, the upgraded plant will be commissioned by the end of the year.
Alfa currently has a melt shop, which produces 1mn mt of billets to feed both the rolling mills. Mill No.1 is equipped to produce 700,000mt of 8-32mm of steel rebar.
