Metal scrap company Alter Trading has partnered with Toyota Tsusho America Inc (TAI) to form a new joint venture named Altech Recycling.
The JV will build a heavy media metal separation plant in North Little Rock, Arkansas. It will process shredded automotive scrap (Zorba) to produce aluminum products. The company plans to supply most of the processed aluminum scrap such as Twitch to TAI for domestic consumption while the heavy scrap will be exported for further processing.
Alter Trading operates close to 20 auto shredders in the US. The new plant will be fed by two nearby shredders operated by Tenenbaum Recycling Group, which Alter acquired in 2018. TAI is a subsidiary of the Toyota Group from Japan.
