The Aluminum Association has appointed Tom Dobbins as its president and chief executive officer.

In his new role—which begins March 16—Dobbins will spearhead the Aluminum Association’s policy advocacy, which was recently developed through the organization’s aluminum agenda.

Dobbins, who was most recently the head of the American Composites Manufacturers Association (ACMA), is a public policy advocacy and association management veteran. At ACMA, he lobbied to include provisions on composites in the last eight big US Congress infrastructure bills, which were eventually signed into law.

According to a statement by the Aluminum Association, Dobbins also led a program that brought composite manufacturers to private events with automotive and aviation OEMs. He has also worked with the Department of Energy to launch an advanced manufacturing institute for composites.

He is a member of the National Association of Manufacturers and Council of Manufacturing Associations’ board of directors and has formerly chaired the American Society of Association Executives Public Policy Committee and Lobby Task Force.
