The GFG Alliance’s aluminum arm, ALVANCE plans to make significant investments in the modernization of its recently acquired aluminum scrap and rolling mill in Duffel, Belgium.

The aluminum maker said in a media statement on Thursday that it had completed the acquisition process of the Duffel plant, which it bought from Novelis last year. As the next step, the company plans to work with various stakeholders of the Duffel plant to finalize a business strategy for the plant over the next three months.

The Duffel plant current has the capacity to process 250,000mt per year and reuses 104,000mt of aluminum scrap per year, according to ALVANCE, which plans to strengthen its primary aluminum supply chain by sending the scrap from its Dunkerque, France smelter to the Belgian refinery for recycling.
