ArcelorMittal Brazil plans to restart the 1mn mt rolling mill No 3 at its long steel mill in Monlevade in January 2022 due to strong market demand and ongoing growth opportunities.
The Monlevade plant has two other rolling mills with installed capacities of 1.2mn mt of wire rod that service the special steel industries.
The restart of No 3 will be gradual in parallel with market requirements in the domestic construction and automotive industries according to management.
João Monlevade No 3 was installed in 2015 in the southeastern state of Minas Gerais but previously faced adverse domestic market conditions on excess capacity, hence was idled, but ArcelorMittal now seeks to relaunch.
