ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel Joint Venture (JV) AMNS is expanding pelletization capacity at the former Essar plant at Paradeep, Odisha by 6mn mt. The company plans to complete the expansion by 2020-21. 

 

ArcelorMittal and Nippon Steel formed a JV to acquire the erstwhile Essar Steel in Dec 2019. The JV was titled ArcelorMittal Nippon Steel India. Essar steel’s Paradeep plant earlier had an annual capacity of 6mn mt. Essar also had an annual pellet making capacity of 8mn mt at its Vizag plant. 

 

After the expansion, AMNS India’s annual pellet production capacity would reach 20mn mt. The company plans to utilise 70pc of pellet production internally and export the remaining 30pc. 

 

AMNS’  steel manufacturing is located at Hazira in Gujarat and has a crude steel annual production capacity of 9.6 mn mt.
