ArcelorMittal plans to build an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) at AM/NS facility in Calvert, Alabama, according to a release on Aug 12. The facility would produce 1.5mn mt of steel slabs for hot strip mill and a broad spectrum of steel grades to cater to Calvert’s end-user demand after the completion.
The construction is likely to take another 24 months and create 300 additional jobs. The company believes adding this EAF would secure its leadership in the North American automotive market by facilitating future steel supply chains.
