ArcelorMittal is restarting two blast furnaces (BFs) in France and Spain this month.
The world’s largest steelmaker will restart its Asturias BF A in Spain by the end of the month after it was idled in April when the COVID-19 pandemic sunk demand. According to media reports, ArcelorMittal France will restart BF No. 1 at its Fos-sur-Mer plant, which was also shut in April, by mid-September.
The measures are intended to meet demand from ArcelorMittal’s customers in light of a maintenance shutdown of its Gent BF in Belgium.
