Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih has suspended some of its operations to safeguard its employees from COVID-19.

The Ukraine-based steelmaker indicated in an email to Davis Index that the temporary shutdown of those operations would reduce its production of hot metal and rolled steel—the company’s main products—by at least 20pc in April-May 2020.

The operations shut down includes stoppage of the facility’s blooming-1, two light-section mills (No.1 and 3) of the first section rolling mill, light-section mill No. 5 of the second section rolling mill, the central electrical laboratory and partly electrical repair shop.

The spread of COVID-19 has forced ArcelorMittal to reduce production and suspend operations at many of its facilities across the world. However, the company has said it is working to prevent a complete shutdown and retain the staff at these facilities, including the one in Ukraine.

In 2019, ArcelorMittal Kryvyi Rih produced 5.3mn mt of hot metal, 5.3mn mt of steel and 4.7mn mt of rolled products.
