Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

The Argentine Chamber of Steel (CAA) has reported a 51.5pc growth in Argentina in January-May compared to the same period last year as the country’s economy recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.

 

Argentina produced 1.8mn mt of steel in the first five months of the year, compared to 1.2mn mt in January-May 2020, CAA noted. In May, crude steel production more than doubled to 391,100mt from 194,300mt on an annual basis and increased by 12.9pc from 346,400mt in April.

 

Hot-rolled steel production also grew by 75.3pc in January-May to 1.9mn mt from 1.1mn mt in the same timeframe last year, while cold-rolled output increased by 63.3pc to 612,500mt from 375,000mt in the same period.
