Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

Italian steelmaker Arvedi Steel recently upgraded the endless strip production (ESP) line at its Acciaieria Arvedi plant in Cremona to increase annual output to 3mn mt.

The company tasked Primetals Technologies with the remodeling, which included installing 21.8 meters of new parts on its casting line for higher processing volumes, which, in turn, will increase the facility’s capacity from its current 2.2mn mt per year. The plant can now produce casts that are 105mm wide at a rate of 450mt per hour.

The Acciaieria Arvedi mini-mill in Cremona, Italy operates two electric-arc furnaces, one of which feeds the older integrated steel production (ISP) line, capable of producing 1.2mn mt of flat-rolled products. With the new upgrade, the Cremona plant’s total capacity will be 4.2mn mt. The company’s main products are hot-rolled coils, in pickled, galvanized, and pre-painted varieties.
