Australia’s auto sales were almost flat from the prior year at 81,220 units in October. Sales was down by 1,236 units, or 1.5pc according to data released by Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries. Green shoots were seen in October with potential recovery the coming months. 

 

The October sales figures were welcome news for the auto industry and auto sales grew in every state in Australia except in Victoria and Tasmania, according to FCAI. 

 

In October, passenger sales was down 24pc to 17,794 units from the prior year. Light commercial vehicles sales was up 11.6pc to 19,152 units. SUVs sales stood at 41,220 units, up by 7pc from the previous year. 

 

Market leader in October was Toyota, which sold 19,505 units, followed by Mazda reporting 7,457 units. Hyundai sold 5,951 units, Ford sold 5,744 units and Kia sold 5,304 units. 

 

From January-October, new vehicle sales stood at 726,111 units, down 18.8pc from the prior year. October’s sales marked the 31st month of decreasing sales in Australia. 

 

Australia’s industry operations are returning to pre-COVID levels as restrictions are slowly being lifted. Government initiatives are in place to act as stimulus for the industry along with more accessible finance for consumers.
