Australia extends anti-dumping (AD) duty on circular chrome-plated steel bars imported from Romania. Australian Anti-Dumping Commission made the final ruling after a first sunset review of the duty levied in September 2016.

Chrome bars covered by the duty are of lengths less than 8m and diameter 18-170 mm and imported under HSN Code 7215.50.90, 7215.90.00, 7228.30.10, 7228.50.00, 7228.60.10 and 7228.60.90.

Domestic producer Milltech Pty, who is also the sole manufacturer of chrome bars in Australia, had filed the plea for the anti-dumping investigation. The sunset view was initiated in December 2020 and the investigation period for the review was Oct 1, 2019 to Sep 30, 2020.

The commission concluded that the removal of AD measures on exports of chrome bars from Romania could lead to a recurrence of dumping and material injury to the domestic industry. The commission has recommended that all exporters from Romania be levied a duty of 40.7pc ad valorem.

Australia first initiated an AD probe on chrome bars from Romania in November 2015, and following the investigation, imposed AD measures on Sep 7, 2016 with a dumping margin between 22.4pc to 66.9pc.
