Australia’s iron ore export rose by 20pc in 2020 creating an export revenue of A$116bn ($89.93bn) compared to A$96bn in 2019, according to the Minerals Council of Australia (MCA).
The country’s copper export also increased by 1pc to A$10.4bn last year from A$10.2bn in 2019.
Australia’s mining sector has significantly contributed to the country’s economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic. Its minerals, metals, and energy commodities generated close to A$270bn in export accounting for 62pc of the country’s export revenue, MCA reported.
The metals and mining industry also employs close to 240,000 employees and supports thousands of regional businesses across Australia, the report stated.
