The workers union at the Bajaj Auto’s Waluj plant in Aurangabad has requested the company management to consider shutting the plant after two employee deaths were reported due to COVID-19 in addition to 140 positive cases, according to media reports.
The Bajaj plant had met the required COVID-19 work norms and put in safety measure. The workers’ union fear that continuing work would spread the contagious disease further as even under social distancing norms, workers are required to be in each other’s proximity.
The two and three wheeler manufacturer has denied report of shutting down the plant. The company has, however, said that there are 8,100 employees at the plant of which 2pc are affected while the two deaths occurred as the patients had co morbidities. Operation at the plant will continue normally with all necessary measures.
The local administration at Waluj has discouraged workers from going to work at the Bajaj plant as the number of COVID-19 cases has increased in the industrial area.
