Chinese steelmaker Baosteel reignited its blast furnace No. 2 (BF No.2) on Nov 22, after upgradation. The ignition took place eight days ahead of schedule, as per reports by the Chinese media.
The 4706 cubic meter capacity furnace was idled in September for renovation. The furnace was fired in 1991 for the first time, to be renovated in 2006. It has an iron-making capacity of over 3.77mn mt.
With this, Baosteel’s Zhanjiang Iron and Steel Base has reached its full efficiency for No. 1 and No. 2 blast furnaces. Preparations for the construction of No. 4 and No. 5 blast furnaces have also been accelerated. The project looks at building a large-scale high-quality steel production base with a capacity of 20mn mt. It strives to achieve an output worth CNY100bn by 2025.
