Germany-based Benteler Steel and Tube has invested €5mn in upgrading its Schloss Neuhaus hot rolling mill. The modernization took 35 days and was carried out by more than 250 employees during the 2019-2020 winter shutdown earlier in the year but the rolling mill’s operation was delayed. The plant resumed production in late August.
Updated components included fitting the essential hot rolling push bench with new drives. Efficiencies expected include higher daily production, improved energy efficiency, and reduced maintenance costs. Daily shift output has increased by 5pc as a result of the investment, the steelmaker said in a release dated September 8.
Benteler Steel Tube produces seamless and welded steel tubes for industrial, energy, and automotive industries. In 2019, the manufacturer recorded €1.1bn in revenues. The steel division of the Benteler Group has approximately 4,000 employees at 7 plants and 8 subsidiaries.
