BHP has agreed to acquire Honeymoon Well Nickel Project, which includes the Honeymoon Well Development Project and a 50pc interest in the Albion Downs North and Jericho exploration joint ventures from MPI Nickel, according to a company statement.
BHP is expanding their nickel resource base in Western Australia.
The combined tenement package comprises of the Wedgetail deposit, which contains a high-grade nickel sulphide resource along with a high quality disseminated sulphide resource in the style of the Mt Keith and Yakabindie ore bodies.
The completion of the agreement is subject to government and third-party approvals.
Nickel is essential for technologies aimed at improving the battery storage of renewable and electric vehicle manufacturing.
This transaction gives BHP access to explore and develop these prospective nickel sulphide tenements, said HP’s Nickel West Asset President, Eddy Haegel.
