Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

The Bureau of International Recycling (BIR)  noted in an update on Friday that it is seeking further clarification from the Malaysian government on new guidelines that were recently reported by the Malaysian Non-Ferrous Metal Association (MNFMA).

BIR added that it would keep its members apprised of any developments on the guidelines and that, until then, members should consider new pre-shipment rules for scrap imports into Malaysia as purely indicative.

MNFMA had reported these rules which were then published by the bureau on Mar 8. Under the new guidelines, Malaysia’s Ministry of International Trade and Industry will reportedly require exporters to procure a certification of approval and subject their goods for inspection prior to gaining entry into the country.
