Brazil imported 11,987mt of aluminum in February, down 24 pc from 15,675mt in the same month last year, according to the country’s Customs data. Aluminum imports declined by 12pc from 13,549mt in January.
In the North American region, Mexico remained the key aluminum exporter to Brazil with shipments from the country rising by 36pc to 3,164mt last month from 2,320mt in February 2020. However, exports fell by 23pc compared to 4,085mt in January. Shipments from Canada to Brazil also rose on an annual and monthly basis to 477mt in February, up 888pc from 48mt in February 2020 and 63pc from 294mt in January. Imports from the US, however, declined by 86pc to 653mt last month from 4,699mt in February 2020 and by 24pc from 860mt in January.
Aluminum shipments to Brazil from other South American countries increased on an annual basis with Chile, Colombia, Paraguay, and Uruguay exporting 973mt, 641mt, 1,483mt, and 442mt of aluminum, respectively.
In 2020, Brazil’s aluminum imports declined to 140,310mt from 156,516mt in 2019, customs data indicated.
