Brazil’s aluminum scrap imports increased 72pc to 12,769mt in May 2021 from 7,407mt in the same month last year but decreased 22pc from 16,309mt in April this year, according to the country’s Customs data.

 

Mexico remained the largest exporter of the commodity to the South American country, with 77pc more shipments to 3,967mt this year from 2,236mt in May 2020, but exports were down 25pc compared to 5,320mt in April 2021.

 

Guatemala’s aluminum scrap shipments to Brazil increased 209pc to 1,594mt in May 2021 from 516mt in the same month last year. Paraguayan shipments to Brazil rose 4669pc to 1,316mt this year, from 28mt in May 2020.

 

Shipments from South Africa to Brazil jumped 52pc to 1,215mt in May 2021 from 798mt in the same month last year.

 

Brazil’s aluminum scrap imports increased by 7pc to 68,763mt in the January-May 2021 period from 64,151mt in the same period last year, according to Brazilian Customs data.
