Brazil’s ferrous scrap imports climbed 4,497pc to 36,179mt in April 2021, from 787mt in the same month last year. The average price of a tonne of imported scrap rose to $355.2/mt this April, from $809.1/mt in the prior-year month, according to the latest figures from the country’s ministry of economy.
However, Brazilian exports of ferrous scrap fell by 30.2pc to 37,109mt in April, from 53,162mt in the same month of the prior year. The average price of a tonne of scrap exported climbed by 109.8pc to $435.2/mt in April, from $207.4/mt in the same month last year.
Imports of non-ferrous base metals waste and scrap rose by 60pc 18,355mt this April, from 11,473mt last year, and exports of this same products climbed by 268.5pc to 6,335mt in April, from 1,719mt shipped in the same month the prior year.
Brazil’s iron ore and concentrates shipments rose by 7.5pc to 25.8mn mt this April, from 23.9mn mt exported last April. The average price of a tonne of iron ore increased to $129.8/mt in April 2021, from $67.6/mt in the same month last year.
Exports of copper ores and concentrates fell 15.3pc to 102,855mt in April, from 121,447mt shipped last April, and exports of aluminum ores and concentrates declined by 12pc to 331,934mt this April, from 377,358mt shipped in the same month of 2020. Shipments of nickel ores and concentrates, on the other hand, climbed from 11,831mt in April this year, from 1mt shipped last year.
Imports
Imports of iron ore and concentrates climbed to 57,036mt in April, from 1.2mt in the same month 2020, and imports of copper ores and concentrates rose from 17,001mt in April 2021, from 11,618mt in the same month the prior year, imports of aluminum ores and concentrates increased to 446mt in April, from 104.4mt in April 2020.
The South American country imported 33,741mt of products manufactured of copper in April, up from 19,319mt in April 2020. Imports of manufactured aluminum products reached 74,861mt this April, down from 46,215mt imported in the same month of the prior year.
