Brazil’s industrial output rose by 4.4pc in Q1 2021 compared to the same quarter last year on higher demand for machinery, metallic, and steel products from the states Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Mato Grosso, Rio Grande do Sul, and Pará.

Industrial output also climbed by 10.5pc in March this year compared to the same month in the prior year due to a 19.2pc increase in demand for motor vehicles and trailers, a rise of 27.5pc in machinery and equipment, and an increase of 24.5pc in the demand for metallic products. The country also witnessed an improvement of 10.9pc in the steel sector of ten states, especially Catarina, Amazonas, and Rio Grande do Sul, the Brazilian statistics agency (IBGE) said in a statement without disclosing volume.

 

However, industrial production fell by 2.4pc in March compared to February due to a fall of 8.4pc in the production of motor vehicles and trailers.

Brazil’s crude steel output rose by 4.1pc to 2.80mn mt in March, from 2.69mn mt in the same month the prior year.
