Brazil’s ferrous scrap imports climbed 895pc to 7,907mt in May 2021.

 

Brazil’s ferrous scrap imports climbed 895pc to 7,907mt in May 2021, from 756mt in the same month last year. The average price of a tonne of imported scrap fell to $366.2/mt this May, from $439.4/mt in the prior year month, according to the latest figures from the country’s ministry of economy.

 

However, Brazilian exports of ferrous scrap fell by 39.02pc to 33,060.7mt in May, from 51,629.80mt in the same month of the prior year. The average price of a tonne of scrap exported climbed by 125.33pc to $462.8/mt in May, from $205.4/mt in the same month last year.

 

Imports of non-ferrous base metals waste and scrap rose by 66.86pc 13,911mt this May, from 7,940mt last year, and exports of this same products descended by 40.52pc to 5,584.3mt in May, from 8,941.2mt shipped in the same month the prior year.

 

Brazil’s iron ore and concentrates shipments rose by 18.33pc to 26.6mn mt this May, from 21.4mn mt exported last May. The average price of a tonne of iron ore increased to $132.5/mt in May 2021, from $64.3/mt in the same month last year.

 

Exports of copper ores and concentrates fell 37.13pc to 67,516.3mt in May, from 102,280.1mt shipped last May, and exports of aluminum ores and concentrates rose by 54.25pc to 523,578.90mt this May, from 323,275.40mt shipped in the same month of 2020. Shipments of nickel ores and concentrates, on the other hand, climbed to 12,140.3mt in May this year, from no exports last year. 

 

Imports

 

Imports of iron ore and concentrates climbed to 53,615.80mt in May, from 6mt in the same month 2020, and imports of copper ores and concentrates declined to 10,521.4mt in May 2021, from 38,981.3mt in the same month the prior year, imports of aluminum ores and concentrates reduced to 137.2mt in May, from 1,045.4mt in May 2020.

 

The South American country imported 17,080mt of products manufactured of copper in May, up from 8,303.6mt in May 2020. Imports of manufactured aluminum products reached 78,055.8mt this May, up from 39,000.7mt imported in the same month of the prior year.
