UK’s British steel has suspended new orders for its structural steel products as its current production capacity is unable to keep up with the strong demand for the product.
A company spokesperson told Davis Index on Tuesday that the suspension was only for structural steel and that the steelmaker will continue taking orders for other products. British Steel’s ex-stock sales of sections will also remain unaffected by the ongoing stoppage of orders. The British steel manufacturer will continue to dispatch materials that are already produced.
British Steel is a subsidiary of China’s Jingye Group that specializes in steel bars, plates, and coils. Jingye has 18 blast furnaces that can produce 15mn mt of steel per year.
The UK steelmaker specializes in construction steel, rails, special profiles, rods, and semi-finished products. Its integrated site in Scunthorpe can convert 300mt of liquid iron and scrap into steel in 25 minutes.
