Byelorussian Steel Works (BSW) exported 33,000mt of steel products to Romania in January-October 2020, up 189pc from the prior-year period.

The company said in a media statement this week that the increase in Romanian imports of its products was due to numerous COVID-19 shutdowns in the country, which limited its production capability.

BSW noted that of all its steel products, exports of structural steel, wire rod, seamless pipes, and bronzed bead wire to Romania grew significantly. In fact, during January-September, the company reported a 122pc increase in wire rod shipments to the EU as well, reflecting the lack of local production.

The steelmaker noted that its total export sales trended flat at 800,000mt in the first 10 months of 2020 compared with the same period last year.
