The Canadian government has allowed recyclers and smelters to remain operational deeming these as essential infrastructure under the manufacturing sector as the country grapples with COVID-19 containment.
Recyclers have been included under the manufacturing sector because they are crucial in ensuring that the global supply chain of mining and mineral materials and products remain intact.
The essential services guidance was issued by Bill Blair, Canada’s Federal Minster of Public Safety and Preparedness.
The Canadian Association of Recycling Industries has lauded the move saying that it is pleased to see the government including recycling as a service that is critical to ensure “global continuity “of mining and mineral supply.
The Canadian government has also deemed primary metals producers as essential under the manufacturing sector along with mining operations.
