Canada’s total value of building permits, including for residential and commercial buildings, increased by 1.7pc to C$8.1mn ($6bn) in August from the previous month, according to a report from Statistics Canada.
Residential building permits in August were up by 7.1pc to C$5.6bn, of which single-family home permits rose by 9.9pc to C$2.5bn, and multi-family homes permits increased by 5pc to C$3.1bn.
The total value of non-residential permits decreased by 8.6pc to C$2.5bn in August from July of this year. Of those permits, commercial dropped by 14.7pc to C$1.4bn, while institutional declined by 5.8pc to $603mn.
