Canada’s total exports in March grew by 14.4pc to C$50.6bn ($41.4bn) compared to C$44.2bn in March last year and grew by 0.3pc from C$50bn in February 2021, according to Statistics Canada (StatCan).
The country’s total imports in March 2021 saw a 6.3pc rise to C$51.7bn compared to C$48.7bn in March 2020 and was up by 5.5pc from C$49bn in February this year.
Exports of metal ores and non-metallic minerals products grew by 28.3pc to C$2bn in March this year compared to C$1.6bn annually while it rose by 33pc from C$1.5bn in the prior month. The country’s non-metallic minerals and metal products exports saw a 4.6pc decline to C$6.1bn in the third month of the year compared to C$6.4bn in the same month last year, however, exports increased 4.7pc from C$45.8bn in February this year.
Canada’s export of motor vehicles and parts saw a 5.1pc rise to C$6.6bn in March compared to C$6.3bn in March last year while it grew by 10.2pc from C$6bn last month. Exports of aircraft and other transportation equipment and parts saw a 2.4pc increase to C$1.9bn in March 2021 compared to C$1.8bn in March 2020 while it declined by 23.8pc from C$2.5bn in February 2021.
The country’s import of metal ores and non-metallic minerals saw a 26.3pc rise to C$1.4bn in March 2021 compared to C$1.1bn in the same month in 2020 while it rose by 13.5pc from C$1.2bn last month. Metals and non-metallic mineral product imports saw a 9.1pc growth in March this year to C$4.5bn compared to C$4.2bn on an annual basis while increased by 4.3pc from C$4.4bn in February 2021.
Canada’s imports of motor vehicles and parts saw a 4.1pc growth in March this year to C$8.4bn compared to C$8.2bn in the same month last year while imports increased 4.6pc from C$8.1bn in February this year. Imports of aircraft and other transportation equipment and parts saw a 28.9pc decline to C$1.5bn this March compared to C$2.1bn last year while there was a 1.6pc increase from C$1.4bn in the previous month.
StatCan also reported that the country’s building permit rose by 44.9pc to C$10.9bn in March 2021 compared to C$7.5bn in March 2020 and was up by 5.7pc from C$10.3bn in February this year.
Canada’s residential permits in March saw a 69.8pc rise to C$8bn compared to C$4.7bn annually while it grew by 15.9pc from C$6.9bn from the prior month. The country’s permits for non-residential buildings saw a 2.2pc increase to C$2.8bn in March this year compared to C$2.7bn in the same month last year while it dropped by 15.6pc from C$3.3bn in February this year.
