Polish aluminum cans maker Canpack has purchased industrial land in Olyphant, Pennsylvania to set up a beverage cans manufacturing unit.

The acquisition marks the entry of Canpack into the US aluminum cans market. The company said in a press release on July 16 that the facility will be completed by the end of next year.

The plant, which could provide around 400 jobs in the area, will also include a Center of Excellence that will showcase Canpack’s R&D and lithographic capabilities, the company said in its statement. The beverage cans maker did not disclose the volumes that would be produced at the facility. However, Canpack recently opened a facility in Colombia with a capacity to produce around 1.9 billion cans annually.

Canpack is a part of Giorgi Global Holdings, which produces aluminum cans for food products in the US and has those facilities in the same region. In a statement, Peter Giorgi, president, and chief executive officer, Giorgi Holdings, also alluded to the successful public-private partnership extended by the region’s authorities, which helped the company finalize Pennsylvania to set up the plant.

Focusing on the importance of the US as one of the largest beverage cans consumers in the world, Roberto Villaquiran, chief executive officer, Canpack said that the company’s customers were among the largest beverage companies in the world because of which it became imperative for the company to set up a plant in the US to meet their demand.

Canpack currently operates across 28 facilities globally, including plants in Europe, Africa, India, South America, and the Middle East.
