Canada-based Capstone Mining has begun ramping up of operations at its Cozamin mine in Zacatecas, Mexico. Operations at the mine were curtailed for six weeks adhering to social distancing measures amid COVID-19. The Mexican Federal Government subsequently included mining in the list of essential activities.

 

Cozamin’s underground expansion remains on track for completion by the end of 2020. After completion, copper production will rise to a new annual run rate of approximately 50-55mn lbs (22,675-24,900mt). The company’s 200-hole drill program was 85pc complete before the non-essential activities were suspended.
