Century Aluminum has signed a new five-year contract with United Steelworkers, including 60 new workers added to the facility in line with its plans to expand production at the site.
According to a release on Monday, the new contract will extend till April 1, 2026. It also protects 350 hourly workers at the facility. The Hawesville plant has an annual production capacity of around 250,000mt of primary aluminum. However, it has been operating at 40pc capacity since 2015 due to lower aluminum prices.
Century plans to revamp production with LME Aluminium now at multi-year highs and expected to spur upward in a bullish market. Century Kentucky is also rebuilding two spent potlines which were idle since 2019.
