Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

The recycling branch of the China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association published the third list of 66 certified domestic consignees who will be allowed to import copper and aluminum scrap. The importers are mostly located in Zhejiang and Guangdong provinces.

Due to environmental concerns, China has banned the import of solid waste from January 2021. However, considering the high price of base metals, authorities have allowed select importers to bring in high-grade overseas scrap. Two lists of importers were released earlier to alleviate high base metal prices in the country.

Considering the prevalence of the COVID-19 cases offshore, a third party will carry out an on-site inspection of foreign supplies. Afterwhich the recycling branch will publish the third list of qualified foreign suppliers.
