China would allow the import of aluminium, brass and copper scrap from November 1, 2020 that comply with the new standards will not be considered waste and can be imported freely, announced the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) on Oct 19, 2020.
The customs commodity codes of recycled brass raw materials, recycled copper raw materials and recycled aluminium alloy raw materials are 7404000020, 7404000030 and 7602000020, respectively.
Imports of scrap failing to meet the specific standards will be prohibited from November onwards unless importers have obtained the 2020 import licence for solid wastes. These licences are issued for waste that can be used as raw material under the restricted import of copper scrap and aluminium scrap.
