Germany was the top European exporter of copper, aluminium and stainless-steel scrap in November 2019, followed by the UK and France.

Aluminium scrap exports from all three countries dropped in November from a year ago, on scrap import restrictions issued by China in the second half of 2019.

The UK’s copper scrap exports from Jan-Nov 2019 rose by 33.5pc from a year ago, as Bangladesh increased imports from the UK by 114.5pc to 50,087mt from a year ago.

The UK’s exports of stainless-steel scrap also rose by 40.9pc on increased imports from the Netherlands, after Indonesia announced a ban on nickel-ore exports starting 2020.
