Davis Index: Market Intelligence for the Global Metals and Recycled Materials Markets

China’s crude stainless steel output stood at 13.96mn mt in the first half of 2020 (Jan-June), a fall of 2.74pc from the prior-year period, according to the data by China Special Steel Enterprises Association cited by China Metallurgical News. 

 

Production

Of the total, output of chromium-nickel series was 6.89mn mt, down by 2.35pc from the year prior. Chromium-manganese series stainless steel output was at 4.38mn mt, a decline of 6.35pc. Cromium stainless steel output stood at 2.58mn mt, a rise of 2.86pc from the prior year. Stainless duplex steel output was 91,384mt, down by 2.24pc from the year prior.

 

Import and exports

China in H1 imported 636,400mt of stainless steel, registering a fall of 43,600mt or 6.41pc from the year prior. In the first half of 2020, export of stainless steel was 1.61mn mt a 5pc decrease from the prior-year period.  

 

Apparent consumption

In H1 2020, the apparent consumption of stainless steel was around 11.65,mn mt, registering a decline of 2.27pc.
