China’s imports of unwrought aluminium and aluminium products rose in July 2020 from the prior-year period, according to the Chinese General Administration of Customs data.

 

The country imported 391,237mt of unwrought aluminium and aluminium products, a jump of 570pc from the prior-year period. In the Jan-July period, imports rose by 284.4pc to 1.27mn mt.

 

Imports of aluminium ore and concentrates were 11mn mt in July 2020, up by 21.5pc. In Jan-July 2020, these stood at 69.31mn mt, up by 10.4pc from the prior-year period.

 

Bauxite imports were 11mn mt, up by 21.5pc from July 2019, and by 5.4pc from June 2020. Imports from Guinea amounted to 5.84mn mt, Australia 3.38mn mt and Indonesia exported 1.51mn mt to China. China’s imports from these three countries amounted to over 97.71pc of the total bauxite imports. Among other countries, Ghana exported 98,400mt, Solomon Islands 65,900mt, Montenegro over 67,600mt, and Cote d’Ivoire over 20,300mt.

 

Alumina imports were 417,300mt in July. In the Jan-July period, the country imported over 2.32mn mt, up by 341.2pc.

 

Primary aluminium imports were 184,600mt in July 2020, up by 49pc from the prior month, and a sharp increase of 1,349.63pc from the prior year. In the Jan-July period, primary aluminium imports were 346,900mt, a surge of 656.55pc from the prior-year period.
