Henan-based Chinalco Mining resumed production of alumina at normal capacity in July-end. The company expects output to reach 120,000mt in August, from 80,000mt in July, according to local media reports. On July 20, the producer had stopped production amid heavy rainfall.
Chinalco has an annual production capacity of 2.4mn mt and four production lines. Its output in the first seven months of the year stood at 700,000mt. In 2020, the company produced 1.30mn mt of alumina.
Earlier, many regions in the country had to implement production curbs due to a shortage of electricity. As a result, in the Guangxi autonomous region, production could drop by 500,000mt in the year. While in Yunnan, companies had cut production by 25-30pc.
