China’s heavy trucks sales increased to 220,000 units March up by 83pc from a year ago and up by 86pc from February, according to data by First Commercial Vehicle Network. March is the 12th consecutive month of higher heavy truck sales in China.
Sales of heavy trucks in China exceeded the world’s highest monthly sales of 191,000 units in April 2020, setting a new record.
Favourable factors such as robust construction activities supported by government stimulus, recovery in terminal demand for heavy-duty trucks and lower base in March last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic elevated the sales figures. In March, the production and sales of the heavy truck industry in China was at full capacity.
Also, since China’s National VI emission policy for heavy diesel vehicles will be implemented from July 1, promotions and channel distribution by manufacturers are at a peak. Stiff competition among automakers to achieve higher sales volume has also increased sales in March.
