Newly built and relocated steel plants cannot add new iron and steel capacity, according to China’s anti-pollution campaign rolled out by the Ministry of Ecology. The government body has given directions to implement ultra-low emission plan for the steel industry in Inner Mongolia, Sichuan, Liaoning provinces.

 

Steel plants in these regions have been mandated to reorganise standards before 2025.  Plants have been asked to construct of high-efficiency desulfurization, denitrification and dust removal measures. Steel companies have also been asked to eliminate outdated production capacity and facilities.  

 

Liaoning is the third-largest steel producing province of China. In April the province produced 24.07mn mt of crude steel. Inner Mongolia produced 8.70mn mt of crude steel in April.
