China’s auto production from 11 key auto groups has fallen 11pc to 983,000 units for the first 20 days of the month from the prior year period, according to China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM).
These 11 manufacturers account for 90pc of China’s total output and consists of all global manufacturers that produce in China and some major Chinese companies.
In the 20-days period, commercial vehicle (busses and trucks) production fell 14pc from a year ago. Passenger vehicles and light commercial vehicles segment including sedans, SUVs, crossovers and minibuses fell 9.9pc, stated CAAM.
The association has not mentioned any production outlook or the reason behind the slump in production in May. However, CAAM has previously mentioned the shortage of semiconductor hurting its auto production and was likely to exacerbate in June quarter.
China’s auto production in April across segments rose to 2.23mn units, up 6.3pc from the prior-year month. Light vehicle production rose 7.9pc to 1.71mn vehicles and commercial vehicles rose 1.2pc to 521,000 units.
In the January-April period, China’s auto production has reached 8.59 mn units.
