China’s shipbuilding capacity for Jan and Feb 2020, is down by 26.7pc from year ago, when it was 4.67mn dwt.

According to the China Association of National Shipbuilding Industry, orders for new ships increased by 41.4pc at the end of Feb 2020, as compared to a year ago. 

China received 3.32mn dwt in orders for new ships. 

At the end of February, orders for handheld ships dropped by 5.7pc from the previous year, when orders were at 80.31mn dwt. 

The COVID-19 pandemic affected China’s shipbuilding industry and export of vessels was at 4.53mn dwt, down by 25.7pc from the previous year. 

Orders for export of handheld vessels declined by 3.9pc from the same period last year.
