Colombia’s crude steel output decreased by 22.6pc to 95,699mt in October, from 123,662mt produced in the same prior-year period.
Long steel output also fell by 15.5pc to 100,002mt last month, from 118,416mt in October 2019, according to the latest data released by the Colombian Steel Committee (Andi).
The committee, releasing the South American country’s import data for September, indicated that Colombia imported 56,660mt of long steel products during that month, down by 36.6pc from 89,427mt imported in September 2019.
Colombia consumes 1.5mn mt of steel products per year, of which, about 1mn mt is produced in the country, while the balance 500,000mt is imported. Colombia’s crude steel production had shown signs of recovery since July when it produced 108,498mt in July, 113,033mt in August, and 103,092mt in September, Andi indicated.
