Colombia’s crude steel production rose by 18.6pc to 115,000mt in December 2020, from 96,931mt in the same month of the prior year, according to the Colombian Steel Committee (CPA) data. 

 

In November 2020, the country’s crude steel output rose by 41.5pc to 121,409mt, from 85,747mt in the same prior-year period.

 

The CPA data indicated that Colombia’s crude steel output and long production increased in November and December 2020 on an annual basis on rising demand in the domestic markets.

 

Long steel production rose by 38.6pc to 122,513mt in December 2020, from 88,381mt in the same month of 2019, and climbed by 19.6pc to 119,825mt in November 2020, from 100,119mt in the same prior-year timeframe.

 

In November 2020, the South American country imported 69,410mt of long steel products, up by 22.7pc from 56,551mt in the same month of 2019, CPA indicated.

 

Colombia’s steel output fell by 15.5pc to 1.12mn mt in 2020, from 1.33mn mt produced in 2019, according to the latest World Steel Association data.

 

The South American country consumes 1.5mn mt of steel products per year, of which, about 1mn mt is produced in the country, while the balance 500,000mt is imported.
