Commercial vehicle registration in the EU fell by 22.2pc to 1.4mn units in the first 10 months of the year according to European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA). 


Registrations declined by 1.2pc to 172,743 units in October, compared to the same period in 2019, ACEA noted, adding that registration of light commercial vehicles (LCV) in the 10-month period was down by 20.5pc compared to the same prior-year period. In October, sales of LCV in Western Europe grew by 1.7pc while those in Central Europe were down by 8.5pc. 


In the January-October period, registration of heavy commercial vehicles (HCV) like trucks fell by 32.4pc to 161,002 units compared to the same period in 2019, while HCV sales in October dropped by 9.8pc to 20,858 units from the same month last year. 


In the first 10 months of the year, registration of medium and heavy commercial vehicles (MHCV) was down by 30.3pc to 201,258 units from the same 10-month period in 2019, while in October alone demand for new trucks was down by 9.5pc from October 2019. 


Sales of medium and heavy buses and coaches (MHBC) dropped by 25.2pc to 22,882 new registration in the ten-month span compared to the January-October period in 2019. MHBC registrations in October dropped by 12.6pc, ACEA reported.
