Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) has announced the extension of the rebate period for inland haulage. Indian foreign trade has been under pressure due to high ocean shipping rates and the unavailability of containers. Domestically transport charges have also increased weighing down margins.
One of the leading logistics providers and the biggest rail hauler of containers, CONCOR has extended the 50pc rebate in rail freight tariff for the movement of empty dry and reefer containers.
The reduction in rail freight tariffs upto 50pc until March 31, 2022 could benefit for the movement of empty containers from gateway ports to various inland container depots (ICD’s) and container rail terminals (CRT’s).
The company decided to take this decision to benefit the country’s export-import trades amid challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic. The move could boost exports in the coming days. Many other train operators could follow the suit and offer discounts on inland haulage movements.
